Minimum Qualifications:
Professional preparation licensure as a registered nurse from an accredited college or university. BSN required. Maintain a current license in the state of Indiana. Current CPR certification. The school nurse may have physical demands such as lifting 25-50 pounds, bending, twisting, standing, reaching, sitting, and walking may be required during their performance of duties. The school nurse functions in accordance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and the school corporation’s policies and procedures
Nature and Scope of Position:
The school nurse will be in an active role of implementing school health services for all
students. A major component of the school health program is to ensure access to primary health
care, provide mandated screenings and immunization monitoring, and provide identification and
resolution for student health care needs that affect their education level and progress. The school
nurse provides acute, chronic, episodic, and emergency health care, in addition to health
education, health counseling, and advocates for students with disabilities

The school nurse will be responsible for giving care (direct and indirect) in compliance with school corporation policies, professional standards of practice, medical provider orders, and the Individual Health Plan.
Reports to the building level principal, director or nursing, and superintendent.
The school nurse assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referral activities for students in the school corporation.
The school nurse provides for the promotion and maintenance of health as well as the prevention of illness and injuries. This facilitates the removal of health-related barriers to learning and promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
