JB for Governor is seeking a Research Assistant to support the team’s tracking, media monitoring, and opposition research programs. We examine public records, news reports, legislation, interviews, and more to ensure the campaign maintains an in-depth understanding of the candidates, policy issues, and topics we research. The Research Assistant will play an integral role in this work and will be responsible for reporting findings to the Research Director, Deputy Research Director, research team, and senior campaign staff. The Research Assistant will report to the Deputy Research Director.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Monitor TV, radio, social media, and other digital platforms for notable appearances and activity
● Catalogue and transcribe media appearances
● Analyze media appearances and report findings to senior staff
● Conduct background research on policy issues, candidates, and other subjects as needed
● Media monitor for breaking news and happenings relevant to the campaign
● Vetting as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Excellent writing and communications skills
● Attention to detail and to accuracy
● Political knowledge to explain significance of findings
● Ability to keep up with the news cycle
● Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
● Ability to solve research problems and answer research questions under tight deadlines
● Willingness to be a team player and support colleagues and the campaign at large
● Internship experience in a political, communications, or research setting preferred
● Illinois ties and familiarity with Illinois politics a plus
