  • Step I: $113,745.64
  • Step II: $120,436.56
  • Step III: $133,818.40

*Starting salary generally starts at Step I.

Experience:
  • Any combination of education and experience which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. 
  • A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
    • Completion of a mechanical apprenticeship program. 
    • Three years varied experience as journeyman machinist or plant mechanic, maintaining and repairing facilities and equipment related to hydroelectric generating or pumping plant.


License/Certificate/Registration Requirement:

Driver's License:  
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment.
  • Failure to obtain or maintain such required license(s) may be cause for disciplinary action. 
  • Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis.
  • Possession and proof of a driving record free of multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) consecutive years. 
  • The driving record will not contribute to an increase in the Authority's automobile rates.


Abbreviated Job Description:
Under the direction of the Plant Mechanic Foreman, performs a variety of skilled mechanical maintenance and repair work on hydroelectric generating and pumping plant equipment; performs related work as required. The duties listed below are illustrative only and are not meant to be a complete and exhaustive listing of the duties and responsibilities of the classification. Work as a member of a crew engaged in mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and rebuilding of hydroelectric generating and pumping plant equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment. Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, overhead bridge and gantry cranes and perform rigging connected with maintenance. Overhaul and repair of turbines, generators, motors, pumps, compressors, filters, eductors, valves, pipes, penstocks and radial gate drive systems. Perform finish grinding and installation of turbine runners and seals. Design, fabricate and manufacture tools, jigs, and fixtures; fabricate parts from stock material. Operate precision lathes, milling, boring, radial arm, drill press, and grinding machines. Perform finish structural and pipe welding using MIG, TIG, acetylene and arc welders. Other duties as may be required.

Knowledge of: Plumbing (copper, steel, SS, PVC, ABS, Victaulic, soldered, threaded, glued).

Ability to:
  • Read and understand technical documents associated with mechanical equipment. Apply supervisorial skills for use in a lead position while supervising apprentices. 
  • Anticipate problems, develop new approaches and make innovative changes in work methods, techniques, and procedures. Precision align rotating machinery. Use precision measuring tools. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Regularly and consistently meet attendance/punctuality requirements. Follow instructions, work independently and cooperatively with others.

Retirement Benefits: 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan: A 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan is funded by the Authority contributing equal to 8% of your gross, base annual salary. 457 Deferred Compensation Plan: participation in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan is an election. If the employee elects to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, the Authority will match up to 5% of an employee’s base annual salary. The total potential combined contributions for the 401(a) and the 457 plans by the Authority may amount to a maximum of 13% of your gross base annual salary. All contributions under both plans vest immediately to you. A Retirement Health Savings Plan is also available.

NOTE: You should be aware that the Authority does not participate in Social Security. This may affect Social Security benefits you have already earned upon retirement.

Health Benefits: Three (3) medical benefit plans offered through ACWA-JPIA (Blue Cross PPO, Blue Cross HMO, Kaiser HMO). The Authority contributes 100% (depending on the plan) of the premium for the employee and 75% for the employee’s eligible family members (depending on the plan).

Dental & Vision Benefits: The Authority contributes 100% of the premium for the employee and the employee’s eligible family members.

Employee Assistance Program: Available to employees and their household members.

Holidays: Employees receive eleven (11) paid holidays, including one (1) floating holiday.

Vacation & Medical Leave: Vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 80 hours per year up through year 4. At year five, leave increases to 120 hours per year. At 10 years of service, vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 140 hours and at 15 years of service, vacation leave increases to a maximum of 160 hours per year. Medical leave accrues at the rate of 8 hours per month.

The San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority was established in January of 1992 and consists of member agencies that provide water service to approximately 1,200,000 acres of irrigated agriculture, 2 million people, and 130,000 acres of wetlands within the western San Joaquin Valley, San Benito and Santa Clara counties.One of the primary purposes of establishing the Authority was to assume the operation and maintenance (O&M) responsibilities of certain United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) Central Valley Project facilities, and do so at an optimum level and at a lower cost than the USBR.The Authority serves the information and representation needs of our members by developing, providing and disseminating information to legislative, administrative and judicial bodies concerning a variety of issues such as: Sacramento and San Joaquin Delta exports, water supply, water quality, water development, conservation, distribution, drainage, contractual rights, surface and groundwater management, and any other common interest of the member agencies.
