  • Location: On-site – Portland, Maine

Position Summary:

The Japanese Interpreter is responsible for providing in-person and remote interpreting services. The successful candidate should be fluent in English and Japanese and reside in Maine . Training on interpreting skills will be provided by House of Languages. This is a per-diem position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person and remote consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation in a variety of settings
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
  • Travel to interpreting assignments in Cumberland, York and Androscoggin counties

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Honesty, integrity, and reliability
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Must pass a background check.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School degree or higher
  • Medical or court interpreter training or certification
  • Knowledge of medical or legal terminology
