This announcement will be used to fill two full time vacancies at the Minnesota Veterans Home-Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis is looking for a full-time Driver for our 53-acre campus. This position will provide transportation via handi-vans/passenger vehicles for up to 10 residents to and from medical facilities/appointments, deliver/transport packages, medical equipment, parcels between homes, buildings, and vendors. Ensure that vehicles are in operational order through pre/post trip inspections.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Transporting residents and medical equipment (i.e. oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, etc.) in a safe and timely manner
  • Inspections of vehicles and conducting minor repairs
  • Transport packages, furniture, medication, biohazards, and deliverables in a timely manner
  • Support and enhance the safety and security of residents, staff, and visitor (i.e. special events, emergencies, searches, weather and road hazards)
  • Perform minor building/ground maintenance such as pick up litter and maintain garbage receptables
  • Document and track work orders in an electronic system
  • Familiarity with the facility’s safe work practices and infection prevention programs

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid Minnesota class D driver's license
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions
  • Must be able to obtain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification /First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience driving large passenger vehicles
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults


Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
  • Finalists may be required to pass a job-related pre-employment physical assessment.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
  • Finalists will be subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation regulations. Individuals not currently in the state commercial driver's license random drug and alcohol testing pool must pass a pre-employment drug test for evidence of non-use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines.
