Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least six years of full-time experience working in a museum leadership position with significant responsibility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with planning and delivering public education programs for museums.
  • Demonstrated experience with public speaking
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, budgeting, and procurement
  • Cover letter detailing experience and education to support answers to the minimum qualifications above and applicable preferences listed below
  • Current resume detailing all relevant education and work experience

Preferences:

  • · Master’s degree in history, museum studies, art history, or related field
  • · Prior experience working or volunteering in a historic house museum
  • · At least one year of supervisory experience
  • · Knowledge of Native American history
  • · Knowledge of US environmental history
  • · Knowledge of State of Florida procurement policies and procedures
  • · Knowledge of US Southern history
  • · Knowledge of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is managerial work supervising staff and providing leadership in the planning and implementation of museum program and operational functions within the Division of Historical Resources. The incumbent in this position will plan, organize, direct, and coordinate programs to encourage, promote, maintain, and operate The Grove Museum in accordance with museum accreditation requirements and best practices.

The duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Serve as Director of The Grove Museum.

  • · Lead, plan and direct programs and efforts to ensure excellence, coordination, and efficiency among administrative, programmatic, and operational functions at The Grove Museum within the Division of Historical Resources
  • Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the structural, curatorial, and archival, and institutional integrity of The Grove Museum
  • · Provides leadership, administrative, financial, and curatorial oversight of all activities at the interests of The Grove Museum.
  • Responsible for program development and event planning, exhibit design, and interpretive guidance and oversight; prepares, manages and implements budgets; develops and implements business plans.
  • Interprets financial and audit reports; serves as the primary point of contact and communications liaison for The Grove Museum.
  • · Assist in coordination of activities with other organizational entities within the Department.
  • · Develops and implements external partnerships with organizations whose interests and needs align with those of The Grove Museum
  • · Serves as liaison to Friends of Florida History boards and coordinates development activities and the membership program for The Grove Museum
  • · Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • · Knowledge of museum terminology, exhibitions, collections and programs. Knowledge of techniques used in conducting research.
  • · Knowledge of budget and human resources management.
  • · Knowledge of non-profit organization management.
  • · Knowledge of budget and financial processes.
  • · Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate projects and work assignments.
  • · Ability to work in a team environment and maintain effective working relationships.
  • · Skill in public speaking and making presentations.
  • · Skill in writing and editing.
  • · Ability to organize and maintain paper and electronic filing systems.
  • · Ability to follow established procedures.
  • · Ability to use common office equipment and software.
  • · Knowledge of Native American history, US environmental history, and US Southern history.

  • · Knowledge of State of Florida procurement policies and procedures.
