Status: Contract, 32–40 hours per week

We are seeking a mission-driven Data Engineer to help transform community-level data into actionable insights. This contract role focuses on integrating data from diverse public and nonprofit sources to support data-driven decision-making that enhances community well-being.
The ideal candidate is technically proficient, self-directed, and passionate about using data to create positive social impact. You’ll work with local partners across the Fox Valley region, helping design and maintain systems that make data more accessible, transparent, and useful for stakeholders.
Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for public and community datasets.
Clean, normalize, and structure data for analysis and visualization using Python , SQL , and Excel .
Write data processing jobs to ingest structured and unstructured data from APIs, flat files, and other sources.
Conduct data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Prepare datasets for visualization and public access platforms.
Maintain transformation documentation and contribute to a central Data Dictionary .
Collaborate on defining metadata, taxonomy, and governance standards.
Support the development of data sharing frameworks and community data agreements.
Partner with local organizations, educational institutions, and public agencies to understand and meet data needs.
Provide technical assistance to stakeholders in accessing and interpreting datasets.
Participate in virtual meetings and occasional in-person sessions within the Fox Valley area.
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science , Computer Science , Information Systems , Public Health , or a related field.
2–4 years of experience in data analysis, transformation, and integration .
Proficiency in Python , SQL , and Excel .
Experience working with APIs, flat files, and diverse data formats.
Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Must be based in the Fox Valley area and able to attend in-person meetings as needed.
Experience with public health, education, or community datasets .
Familiarity with data visualization tools or cloud data environments (e.g., AWS) .
Interest in data governance and AI-based automation tools .
