Position Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Resident Engineer (N4 level) to oversee and inspect a bridge/culvert construction project on Ecker Hollow Road in Schoharie County, NY. The position will begin in late September 2025 and follow the contractor's working hours (typically 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.), with the potential for overtime. This role is ideal for a senior-level professional with extensive experience managing bridge/culvert construction projects in compliance with NYSDOT standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for field oversight and construction administration from project kickoff through completion, using Appia software to document and track progress.
What you'll be able to do:
Construction Oversight:
• Serve as the on-site Resident Engineer for a bridge/culvert project in Schoharie County.
• Oversee contractor operations to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
• Conduct routine and detailed inspections at various stages of construction.
• Identify and document construction issues, safety concerns, and non-compliant work.
• Coordinate with contractor, agency representatives, and internal staff to maintain project momentum.
• Enforce job site safety procedures in alignment with OSHA standards and project-specific guidelines.
Project Administration:
• Maintain a thorough daily record of field activity, labor, equipment, weather, and materials used.
• Use Appia software for construction administration, including inspection logs, quantity tracking, and correspondence.
• Verify quantities and support preparation of contractor payment applications.
• Review RFIs, submittals, and change orders as needed.
• Participate in and document progress meetings.
• Support timely and accurate reporting and communication with client representatives and stakeholders.
• Coordinate materials testing and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
• Track project milestones, schedule adherence, and contractor performance.
The minimum requirements we seek:
• NICET Level IV certification or equivalent experience (required)
• Prior New York State DOT and/or New York State Thruway bridge construction inspection experience (strongly preferred)
• Proficiency in Appia or similar project documentation software (preferred)
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician certification (preferred)
• OSHA 10 certification and demonstrated knowledge of construction site safety practices
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred; equivalent experience may be considered)
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to construction sites throughout Schoharie County
