Job Description
Location: Gilbert, AZ
On-site: Full-time
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Mill Machinist with mid-level experience to set up, operate, and maintain CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines (including Makino and Nakamura models) in a high-precision manufacturing environment. This role emphasizes accurate setups, tool changes, real-time adjustments, and quality inspections to produce tight-tolerance metal components. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently while maintaining safety and quality standards. No advanced programming is required — focus is on proven programs with basic offset adjustments and minor G-code edits at the control (Fanuc or similar) as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC vertical/horizontal mills (e.g., Makino high-speed/precision models, Nakamura multi-tasking milling centers) to machine parts to blueprint specifications
- Select, align, and secure workholding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials (precision vises, soft jaws, 4th-axis rotaries, collets, modular fixtures)
- Calculate and set speeds, feeds, depth of cut, and coolant flow; make real-time adjustments for tool wear, material variations, or minor process issues
- Perform tool changes and set tool length/work offsets using manual touch-off, touch probes, or presetters
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, including GD&T callouts, and follow detailed work instructions
- Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, height gauges)
- Troubleshoot common machining issues (e.g., chatter, tolerance drift, tool deflection) and implement corrective actions
- Perform daily preventive maintenance: clean machines, check coolant/lubrication levels, replace worn tools/inserts
- Document inspection results, adjustments, and nonconformances per quality procedures
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area (5S standards)
Qualifications
- 1–5+ years of hands-on CNC mill machining experience (vertical and/or horizontal machines)
- Proven ability to perform independent setups and changeovers on 3-axis (or higher) CNC mills
- Strong proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators)
- Solid blueprint reading skills, including GD&T interpretation
- Comfortable making offset adjustments and basic G-code edits at the control (Fanuc, Haas, or similar)
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining issues
- Experience holding tight tolerances (±0.001 " or better) in production environments
- Familiarity with safety practices (LOTO, PPE, machine guarding)
- Reliable attendance and commitment to quality and continuous improvement
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred
- Experience with Makino high-speed/precision mills or Nakamura multi-tasking CNC mills/lathes
- Familiarity with Fanuc controls
- Basic understanding of speeds/feeds calculations
- Forklift certification
- Exposure to ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality systems
- Previous work in aerospace, defense, medical, or precision manufacturing
